so i finished watching the movie "vicky cristina barcelona" the other night.  it was funny.  and weird.  i'd say it's not for the morally upright people.  did i say it's for me?

then i watched "the women" upon the insistence of the hubby.  this dvd has been in our shelf for months and hubby said he watched it while i was in china.  he said it's funny and i'd like it.  halfway of the movie, meg ryan's character found out that her husband is cheating on her.  i thought, hmmm, is hubby mocking me or himself?  did he really understand what the movie is all about?  when hubby entered the room (i was watching it alone), i told him:  "you know, i can totally relate!" ... his face was blank... now that was funny.

i think i better get busy with work again.

more films

i chanced upon this documentary film by michael moore, called "sicko", on cable.  it was really absorbing.  it dealt with the health care that the US is getting or not getting, to be exact.  it made comparison with the health care from other countries like canada, uk, france.. even cuba!  and what do you know, they're all better in giving health care than the US.  therefore this film, (aside from those i see on TV from watching Crime & Investigation channel) seals my decision not to live in america, hahaha.  but traveling there and seeing the sights wouldn't hurt, of course.

last night i was watching 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona'.  it's a typical film by woody allen... lots of dialogues, which i like.  this is where penelope cruz won her oscar award for best supporting actress (?)... and halfway thru the movie, when her character came out, i accidentally plugged out the power cord.  i checked the time and it was almost midnight, way past my bed time.  oh well, i'll just watch it again tonight...

it is written...

it is a very long holiday (almost a week!) in manila, being a predominantly catholic country where we observe this week as "Holy Week".  for the past years (plural), i haven't been a very religious person but God knows i've been trying to be a good girl.  well, from my standards, i'm already good. :D

i prepared for this long holiday -- i made sure that the fridge is well stocked (all supermarkets/malls are closed) and i buought several dvds to watch.  last night, i watched "Taken", starring Liam Nielson.  i thought it was a dramatic movie but it turned out to be action-packed and full of suspense.  story-wise, it was just ordinary but the suspense kept me awake the whole time.

just a while ago, i finished watching 'slumdog millionaire'.  it's very good, but the poverty shown in it was kind of disturbing, it made me wonder whether it was exaggerated just to get audience attention to the film.  anyway, i admire how the lead character pursued his love interest, and how he did it.  they always said that theirs was just destiny.  and as it was stated at the last part of the movie... "it is written."

check out this music video (this is shown at the last part of the movie, together with the credits... don't worry, this is not the typical bollywood song-and-dance movie):

tennis talk

i got this from jessica z's blog, where she enumerated several movies with tennis scenes... this one's kinda funny and caught my interest:

5. Salawahan. Directed by Ishmael Bernal. I saw it years ago on Cinema One. Jay Ilagan and Mat Ranillo III are young men on the make. Rio Locsin is the “nice” girl, Sandy Andolong is the “liberated” fashion designer, and the fabulous Rita Gomez is a sex researcher. One day the three women meet at the apartment Jay Ilagan shares with Mat Ranillo. They eye each other warily, then Rio Locsin announces that it’s her birthday. Sandy Andolong asks her how old she is.

Rio Locsin: I’m 18.
Sandy Andolong: I’m 20.
Rita Gomez: I’m hungry.

Mat Ranillo discusses his sex life while playing tennis with his friends, and since this is the early 1980s everyone is wearing tight short shorts like Bjorn Borg used to wear. The tennis here signifies privilege and youthful energy. Usually when people play tennis in Filipino movies, it means they’re rich. (Rich people are also portrayed as wearing full make-up, couture, and jewelry while sitting around the house.)

too bad i wasn't able to watch this, hee.

talk about tennis, i'm sharing photos of 2 cutie tennis players.  ooh-lala!
