guitar lessons 101

i'm beginning to teach my kids how to play the guitar. actually they're quite late already, considering that i, ahem, learned to play this instrument early in my grade school days, about 7-8 years old. my daughters alexa is already in 3rd year high school (15yrs old) and andy is in grade 3 (9 yrs old). i remember i was only in grade 1 when i learned the chords A, D and E. ok, enough of the boasting. i began to teach them these 3 easiest chords (A, D and E) and so far, they're getting interested and learning quite fast. i also taught them to play the song "Yellow Bird" which only has these 3 chords. it's a very old song but they're getting the hang of it, and besides they'll learn faster if they have a song to play with.

then i saw this song in one of my song books. it's a tagalog song but the chords are easy as well. lots of A, D, E with F#m as the most difficult chord. alexa is starting to play it but she's not familiar with the song. so i searched the net and i found it. it's nice to listen to while relaxing.

aah, friday-off once again - this means no office work for today and i get to stay home. i still woke up pretty early though, coz if i didn't, the kids would still be asleep by noon, and they have school today. nevertheless, i wasn't complaining of waking up early, i already planned my things to do for today.

first, i started to re-organize my closet. i was actually looking for a missing cellphone, i gave it to alexa/pauline but they seem to have lost it. as of this moment, i already finished unfolding and re-folding my clothes but the cellphone is still nowhere to be found.

and then when i got out of the room, i saw my laptop... looks like it's calling for me. it's quite obvious, i heeded its call. so here i am.

i just found out last week that geocities have closed. darn it. most of my music files are stored somewhere in geocities. so now those music links are broken. sorry 'bout that.
anyway, i already discovered something else, which makes me able to create my personal music playlist, so i guess that is much better.

i know, i'm just yakking and blabbing... not making any sense at all. nobody reads this anyway. this is just me typing anything -- anything to keep my sanity.

oh, i just peeked in my room, some of my clothes are still scattered on my bed. i better go now and try to clean up my remaining mess.

well, well, well! finally i got to access my blog. i couldn't use my laptop at home coz andy and migs spend most of the time with it, during weekends though. weekday, i got to set an example not to surf the net all the time. then i still have to tutor them after coming home at night. sigh!

but now it's a surprise that bloghi is not blocked here in the office. maybe it's because it's still early - i got here before 7am. see, i drove xl and i wanted to avoid the traffic and possible 'mishap' with him again, so i left home earlier than ususal. anyway, he was working fine this morning, and hopefully as always.

i was pretty busy during the weekend - it was alexa's 15th birthday! gosh, how time flies. she's now taller than me, and i must admit, she's getting more beautiful everyday. she should thank her genes for that. (har-har) i took some photos of her but our usb port is disabled here in the office so i cannot share it here.

saturday night i prepared buko salad - it was my first time to do that. usually i just make the standard fruit salad without the buko. i made it less sweet so i didn't know whether the kids would like it. then next day i served it for dessert and what do you know, it was a hit! it's just a shame that andy and migs don't know what buko is! they said, "mommy, i liked the noodle-thing". i guess i have to take them to the palengke this weekend and show them where the buko salad came from.

i'll make this short coz the IT guys here in the office might disable my access to this site. sneaky me.

xl doesn't love me?

xl is our old car. he's been with us for about ten years now. we got a new, bigger vehicle about 3 years ago (whom i call my boyfriend) and i've been using that more often. so that leaves my hubby with xl. but sometimes, we exchange cars when hubby has to go somewhere far and the new car can be more trusted when it comes to long distance driving. and oh, he also uses the new car when meeting friends... you know, it's more 'presentable' in that way (sheez).

so this was what happened over the weekend, hubby had to go to quezon city, which is about 50km from our place. i wasn't so sure about the road conditions that time because it just recently flooded along the way, so i let hubby use the new car (why do i keep saying 'new' when it's already 3 years old... ok, i'll call it 'bf' from now on.) and that left me with xl. it was really just fine coz i wasn't planning to go somewhere far anyway.

at 10am i got restless. i took a quick shower and went to the nearby mini-mall, about 15minutes drive away. i was planning to buy some dvd's from the neighborhood 'pirate'. when i reached the mini-mall's second floor, the stalls were nowhere to be found! oh no! this was one of my nightmares, not having my weekly supply of movies to watch on dvd! i asked around and i was told that the pirates had gone to another 'mini-mall', i think it was because this other place was more obscure for the 'authorities' to find out ha-ha-ha. it was another 10minutes drive away and so i thought, what the heck, i'm already here anyway, so off i went to this other 'mini-mall'.

despite the bad traffic, it was heaven when i got there. so many dvd titles and for even cheaper price! after about half an hour, i left with 5 dvds, mostly tagalog movies which i didn't watch while they were showing in theaters (baduy daw, hahaha).

i was in a hurry going home. traffic was again bad, but i was able to criss-cross, cut and inch my way through, beating most of the cars on the road. i was that confident coz i know which lane to go to avoid delays, such that i was near the neighborhood entrance in just about 12 minutes. i was getting excited that i will be able to sit back at home, relax and watch the movies then suddenly, the car engine stopped! i started the car again with no luck. then i noticed that the car was already over-heating. this is baad! why does it always happen to me when i drive this car?

luckily i was already at the neighborhood gate and i managed to stop the car at the side road so i didn't cause any traffic. heck, i was even luckier that the security guards were there to assist me push the car near the sidewalk! they gave me water to refill the radiator then they noticed that one of the gaskets was already damaged and water was leaking from it. fortunately (again!), there was a nearby car supplies store just a few steps from where i was, and the store was selling that spare part. so there i was, in the middle of the day, having a stalled car, trying to fix it with 2 security guards. good thing i was wearing something decent, hahaha!

which made me think, perhaps xl doesn't love me coz he's done this with me 3 times already. (well, the 2 times were after i "rearended" him to another car heh-heh). but come to think of it again, maybe he loves both me and my husband, coz he chooses me to have these 'moments' coz maybe, just maybe, i can deal with it better?

the havoc wreaking typhoon is now gone but still the flooded areas abound. unfortunately, while many people are trying to recover from the devastation, another typhoon is coming this way. the weather bureau says it's a stronger typhoon, in terms of wind speed, but the rain it will be bringing will not be as much as the previous deadly one. well, i can see that the prediction is coming true coz it's just very dark outside when i went out of the office this afternoon. i was rather confident that i even went for an hour of facial when everybody was already rushing home. when i went out of the salon, it was raining pretty hard. no worries, i got home safe.

saturday, sept 28, 2009. manila was caught off-guard by the wrath of typhoon ondoy (international name 'ketsana'). in just a short span of 6 hours, rain poured with a volume more than that of hurricane katrina. the result? flood reaching as high as more than 20ft in some areas. more than 200 deaths. thousands left homeless. it was really a tragedy. fortunately the area where i live was spared from all of these. thank you God.

my schedule, my weekend

we currently don't have much projects in the office today, which means, lots of the employees, including me, are charging overhead. in other words, we are not assigned to particular projects. ok, simply put, we are not doing anything. so this is the best time for the management and the admin to tinker and 'play around' with the office policy. one example, they have updated our dress code to be more lenient and they now approve of the ladies wearing dress sandals. previously they didn't allow this, only closed shoes were permitted. that's good news, coz dress sandals are much more comfortable than the closed shoes with heels. but then i have to do my toenails regulary now. hahaha

and then there is the internet usage policy. they have now included this site (bloghi) in the blocked list of sites. good thing i can still access the site, but now i can't edit and update anymore. guess i have to do this at home, and late at night, when the kids are all asleep. i can't even touch my own laptop when they're awake, coz they're the ones using this. darn that facebook. and pet society. and photoshop.

hey last weekend i was able to catch "the kite runner" in HBO. i was planning to take a nap but when i switched the tv on (to look for boring programs to make me sleep), i saw this movie about to start. it was really engrossing...and a tearjerker. after the movie ended i got out of the room with my puffy eyes and the kids thought i overslept or something. hahaha
